Almeida
AlmeidaHead of the Council, the village of Almeida is located in a plateau area called the Planalto das Mesas, 2,5 Km from the right bank of the Cõa river and 7 kn of the border with Spain.

The Council of Almeida is made up of 29 parishes and presents a remarkable historical and patrimonial richness. There are three historical centres: the Medieval Villages of Castelo Mendo, Castelo Novo and the urban centre of the Village of Almeida, surrounded by its military fortress of bastion-like design.

The Council is served by the Beira Alta railroad and IP5 motorway. This itinerary has two access junctions, one trough Estrada Nacional 324 and the other in Vilar Formoso.

Castelo Mendo
Castelo MendoLocated southeast of the Council of Almeida, Castelo Mendo is set on a plateau at 756 metres of altitude, 19 Km away from the Village of Almeida.

This Village rules over a harsh landscape outlined by deep valleys, surrounded from the east and south by the river Côa.

The main road access is Estrada Nacional 16, but it is also served by the Beira Alta Railroad (Vilar Formoso).

Castelo Novo
Castelo NovoCastelo Novo is located halfway down the east bank of Serra da Gardunha Mountain, at 703 metres of altitude, between two rivulets in Beira Baixa.

It is possible to access the village by use of estrada nacional 18 to which a paved track of about 3 km joint. The village is also served by a halt (Beira Baixa Railroad).

Castelo Rodrigo
Castelo RodrigoLocated in the vast territories of Riba Côa, 10 Km from the right bank of River Côa and 12,5 Km from Spanish Border, Castelo Rodrigo is built on a high and isolated hill at 770 metres of altitude.

It stands where Estradas Nacionais 332 (from Almeida) and 221 (from Pinhel) meet.

Idanha - a - Velha
Idanha - a - VelhaIdanha – a - Velha is located 15 Km from tha head of the Council (Idanha – a – Nova), 12 Km from the village of Monsanto and about 35 Km from the Spanish Border. The village of Idanha –a – Velha spreads through an area of 4,5 Hectares, located on two small elevations sided to the southeast and west by the River Pônsul.

Located in a place of great natural beauty, it is ruled by the fortress of Monsanto.

Linhares da Beira
Linhares da Beira is located in one of the bases of Serra da Estrela at about metres of altitude, in the Council of Celorico da Beira and 4 Km from estrada Nacional 17 that connects Coimbra to Guarda.

Marialva
MarialvaMarialva is located in the meridional part of the Council of Mêda in a mountainous and granite area of somewhat difficult and irregular topography, coming down to the left bank of the Marialva rivulet.

Made up of three conglomerates, the Citadel, outskirts and the Farm it has now full communication with the outside trough a stretch of road recently built as part of estrada nacional 324 that connects Marialva to its head of Council, as well as estrada nacional 102. It is through this road that, crossing the Council from north to south, the Trás-os-Montes North-east ant the Beira Plateau are connected.

There is easy accessibility to Marialva via railroad trough the stations of Celorico da Beira and Vila Franca das Naves. The announced construction of IP 2 will bring great improvement to Marialva’s accessibility.

Monsanto
MonsantoOne of the 17 parishes in the Council of Idanha – a – Nova, Monsanto takes up a total area of 18 Hectares and is located to the northeast of the Council’s territory on a hill of steep elevation that reaches its highest point at 758 metres of altitude.

The presence of several small places in the slopes and bases of the hill register the population’s migration towards the plain.

25 Km from the head of Council (Idanha – a – Nova), you access Monsanto via estrada nacional 239 and estrada municipal 567.

PiodãoPiodão
Implanted in a abrupt scarp, tight web structured and sinuous design, Piodão is located in the Serra do Açôr mountain, Council of Arganil.

Access to Piodão is made via estrada nacional 17 (Beira Road).

Sortelha
Sortelha is part of Beira Alta, in the borderline area of the Council of Sabugal.

SortelhaLocated at 773 metres of altitude, over Serra de S. Cornélio mountain, it is set over granite land and is part of an area where the biggest drops of altitude (between 400 and 800 metres of altitude) and the hills with the biggest inclination, are registered.

12 Km from Sabugal and 14 Km from Belmonte, you can reach Sortelha via the road that connects Castelo Branco to Guarda.
